THIS MEAN NASTY LITTLE AGGRESSIVE FAST SONG has almost nothing to do with what this three piece band would normally crank out back in the days of 1990 and prior and as Clark "THE SHARK" Hagins remembers it, this song was almost NEVER EVEN RECORDED by G.e; "We were a weird Psychedelic garage band but we badly wanted to break into the mainstream around our town of Redondo Beach Cali and that meant pulling out an agro punk rock song ,.. if THAT'S what it took ! I'm not sure if Keegan really liked the end result of this track all that much ,..but I think he liked the Paycheck" ( Laughs ). 'WAITING FOR YOUR LOVE TO FAIL" QUICKLY BECAME G.E'S most requested song when they played live and Hagins said the band would "keep" this song for the end of the set at the encore,. "We would tease the crowd ,..Phil would just play that opening riff and stop ,, sorta like Ray Davies and the Kinks with Lola ( LOL ! ),.. it was very annoying even for us within the band ,.. and ,... sometimes, WE NEVER EVEN PLAYED IT at all ,.. and just ,.. left the stage ( Laughs )." 1990 was a tough year for Hagins as his sister Kathy died in May of the year and it just seemed like one bad thing after the next,.."In 1988 , there was this young gal that I really fancied ,.. and well ,.. I guess she went and got married to someone else,.. I guess this song was the result !! ( Laughs )",... The 1990 "Immorally Moral" cassette would be the final GREENHOUSE EFFECT ALBUM to feature Guitarist Phil "FLIPPER" Keegan ( Dr. Phil ),... And Hagins says the split was 'agonizing" for him ,.. "Phil wrote this great riff here as we used to jam at Pendragon Studios over in North Redondo Beach in like 1989" Says Hagins for ROCK CITY RECORDS LABEL BLOGGING 2016,.... Very well made videos that basically serve as 'mini-documentarys' are seen and used by G.e. as a top promotional tool for their songs....
Some 80 Million visitors have seen Greenhouse Effect music videos on the net....
In 2008, the song "Brandy" has become more than a somewhat 'hit' song for G.e. and has helped to make them very well known....
The band started long ago as a simple three piece with a drummer lead singer! Drummer Greggie Tarpley would sing along with red haired bassist Rick Carmody and dramatic lead guitarist Phil Keegan...
Carmody who later went on to play with several bands around the "South Bay" area of Redondo Beach is simply seen today on the net and known as 'that red headed bassist guy in Greenhouse Effect' to viewers and listeners around the World...
Guitarist Phil Keegan is known as probobly the originator of 'grunge rock' as he is responsible for 1987 muddy tracks like 'Racers' and 'Precarious',...songs where Keegan says he would reduce the treble on his Fender Amps and crack up the midrange and the bass while stepping on his Wah Wah peddles to achieve a powerful loud 'muddy' sound...that the media would later coin as "Grunge'
The depressing lyrics of the song "Racers' would be the hallmark of Keegan songwriting and other songs such as "Little Man' would also sludge their way out of the speakers with power from the first album "Global Warming' in 1987....
Important footage of the band playing live in 1989, displaying Tarpley's abilities to both drum and sing live in an astonishingly good way mark G.e. apart from other more conventional bands as obviously...Phil Keegan's live guitar work in the 1989 footage is breath-taking as Carmody holds down some mean tight bass....
clearly , this well recording of this 3 man band displays them as the 'fathers of grunge' ...the creators of the '1990's indie 'alternative rock' sound !
It should and can also be mentioned that Drummer Greg Tarpley had a great poerful singing voice which could remind one of David Bowie or Syd Barret of early Pink Flloyd circa 1968...
Often, Greenhouse Effect sported a rich "Iron Butterfly" like authentic 1960's like 'garage rock' psychedelic sound.......
Along with Tila Tequila, Lisa Nova, Perez Hilton, and Happy Slip, Greenhouse Effect have become one of a handful of 'internet celebrities' ...though it is rare to see bands achieve a status like this, there are now many bands (unable to attain record label deals for whatever reason) who 'work the net' nightly - in an effort to pave their own musical path and make up their own rules,...G.e. has succeeded at this - like no other !
